  • Frying pan

Honey pancake batter

  • 2 eggs
  • 50 g caster sugar
  • 80 g cake flour use plain flour if you don't have cake flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 15 g honey
  • 10 ml water
  • oil

Red bean paste

  • ready made sweetened red bean paste


  • In a mixing bowl, mix eggs and sugar together, whisk.
  • Sieve in flour, baking powder and whisk to mix again.
  • Pour in honey, mix. Cover and leave to rest for 15 minutes.
  • Add in 10ml of water and mix.
  • Using a kitchen towel, wipe some oil on the pan, then wipe clean the pan again.
  • Heat the pan on a medium-low heat.
  • Using a little ladle, pour the batter into the middle of the pan from about 10cm above. This forms a round shape!
  • Cook for about 2 minutes, or until lots of bubbles are forming all over the pancake, using a spatula, flip over. Cook for another 30 seconds or so.
  • Transfer to a plate and repeat with the rest of the batter. You should get 8 pancakes this way.
  • Take a pancake and load it up with the red bean paste! Form a little mount so it makes a gorgeous dome shape.
  • Cover with another pancake and pinch the edges together.
  • You can eat straight away but if you cling film them and leave for a day or so, the moisture from the bean paste goes into the pancake and makes it even nicer! Enjoy!


  • The first one always turn out funny!
  • In between each pancake, lift the pan off the heat, wipe with oil (but don't leave oil on the pan), and wave the pan in the air for a bit to cool slightly :)
  • Wait till the bubbles formed before you flip!
